Multiexport Foods Granted Prestigious CTPAT Certification
MIAMI—Multiexport Foods, Inc. today announces it has achieved certification by the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT). A voluntary public-private sector partnership, CTPAT manages the cargo-enforcement strategy of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to strengthen international supply chains by way of mitigating risk.
Through its membership in CTPAT, Multiexport Foods will work directly with CBP to protect the integrity of its supply chain by identifying security gaps and implementing specific security measures, as well as sharing and employing best practices. Via an application process that extended nearly a year, representatives of Customs and Border Patrol travelled to Multiexport’s facilities in the Patagonia region of Chile to conduct a stringent inspection of facilities, as well as a meticulous review of processes and documentation.
“As a certified partner in the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism, Multiexport Foods, Inc. meets the highest standards of import security, and ensures that Multiexport Foods salmon is produced, accessed, controlled and transported only by or with strict oversite by official Multiexport Foods personnel,” said Jason Paine, general manager of Multiexport Foods USA. “What this translates to for our retailers and distributors is top-level assurance that risk is properly mitigated and that we are efficient in the importation of our fresh frozen and smoked Latitude 45 salmon products coming from the heart of Patagonia.”
As a pioneer and leader in the salmon-farming industry in Chile for more than three decades, Multiexport Foods proactively pursued CTPAT certification—a voluntary program—so as to further reinforce its stringent levels of security already in place, which include x-ray inspection at airports prior to exportation and frequent random inspection upon arrival in the United States.
And as a result of its certification with CTPAT, Multiexport Foods retailers will benefit from shorter wait times at borders —via access to Free and Secure Trade (FAST) Lanes—and additional benefits as a trusted trade partner by foreign customs administrations that have signed “mutual recognition” agreements with the United States.
